Torres for sale!

Chelsea are expected to sell Torres for around £20 million. A huge loss on what they bought him for last year.

ESPN STAR: Chelsea ready to sell Torres

Chelsea's patience with misfiring £50million forward Fernando Torres appears to have snapped with the club willing to listen to offers for him in the January transfer window.
The former Liverpool darling, who moved to Stamford Bridge in acrimonious circumstances just eleven months ago, has registered a paltry three league goals for the Blues thus far.
According to a report from The Daily Mail, Chelsea were prepared to allow Torres to depart on loan to rebuild his confidence but it is believed that the club is now ready to offload the striker altogether.
The Stamford Bridge outfit however will have to swallow a gigantic financial loss on a player whom they splashed a whopping £50million for, making him the most expensive footballer in Britain.
Chelsea are prepared to do business with any side that offers around £20m for Torres and match his whopping £150,000-a-week salary.
New Chelsea tactician Andre Villas-Boas arrived in London in the summer determined to cajole the Torres of old that made the forward one of the most scintillating and potent attacking threats in the world.
The signing of Juan Mata from Valencia was even designed to coax the best out of Torres but the former Kop idol has failed to forge any sort of understanding with his compatriot.
Having been patient with the forward as he struggled to come to terms with the backlash and stigma from Liverpool fans following his defection from Merseyside, Chelsea are now sounding out continental sides in the hope of getting Torres of their books.
In fact, the bungling Spaniard has now been firmly displaced from the starting eleven and is struggling behind veteran Didier Drogba and Daniel Sturridge in the pecking order.
Torres was unsurprisingly an unused substitute in Chelsea's 2-1 triumph against Manchester City on Monday night and did not partake in the celebrations that ensued between the Blues' substitutes and coaching staff following Frank Lampard's winner against the Citizens.
While Torres enjoys a good rapport with the Chelsea faithful, he has miserably failed to live up to his hefty price tag and reputation.
However, it seemed as though the Spaniard turned the corner when he struck a beautiful effort against United at Old Trafford in September, but the former Liverpool front man needlessly got himself sent off against new boys Swansea in Chelsea's next encounter.
Torres initially went through a 13 match goal drought when he jumped ship to the Blues, before finally opening his Chelsea account in their 3-0 win over West Ham on April 23.
He then went underwent another nine match goalless streak before hitting the target against the Red Devils on September 18.
Torres has fared no better this season, having only found the back of the net a disappointing four times, despite having started 11 games.

Goals: Chelsea VS Manchester City

Chelsea win at home vs Man City

By Michael Wade

Manchester City’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season came crashing to a halt as Chelsea came from behind to beat them 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.
Frank Lampard’s penalty ten minutes from time claimed all three points for the Blues and wrestled them back into contention at the top of the league table, while underlining his own importance to the club.
Veteran midfielder Lampard has been unable to hold down a regular starting spot under new Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas, and started the game on the bench, but after keeping his cool to snatch three points from the league leaders he will surely improve his chances of a run in the side.
Chelsea got off to the worst possible start when they fell behind to a Mario Balotelli goal after less than two minutes.
And it could have been even worse as City went for the kill with Sergio Aguero shooting narrowly wide and the visitors unlucky not to earn a penalty when David Silva was tripped in the box by Jose Bosingwa.
But a close-range effort from Raul Meireles dragged Chelsea back into the game when he hammered Daniel Sturridge’s cross past Joe Hart in the 33rd minute.
The pendulum swung in the second-half and things took a turn for the worse for Roberto Mancini’s men when Gael Clichy received a second yellow card after bringing down Ramires just before the hour mark.
And although Chelsea relentlessly piled forward in search of the winner they could not find it, with Mancini introducing defenders Kolo Toure and Nigel De Jong at the expense of Aguero and Silva.
As they gambled for a victory Villas-Boas’ decision to introduce Lampard paid off as Joleon Lescott handballed Sturridge’s shot giving Chelsea a penalty in the 82nd minute.
The England midfielder coolly dispatched his spot-kick beyond international teammate Hart to move Chelsea up to third and leave City with a slender two-point advantage over Manchester United in second.

Anelka agrees to terms with Chinese team

Shanghai, China: Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua have agreed terms with Chelsea’s French striker Nicolas Anelka, the club said Sunday.

“We have agreed on all the contract details and we are only waiting for him to sign it,” club official Ma Yue told Reuters by telephone, adding that there was only one loose end that both sides were “working vigorously” to tie up.

Ma would not reveal details of the contract for the 32-year-old but said Shanghai would issue a statement Monday.

Local media have reported that Anelka’s lucrative contract would be for three years and would involve both soccer and commercial co-operation.

English Premier League side Chelsea have already said they have accepted transfer requests from Anelka and Brazilian defender Alex.

Media reports have said second tier English team West Ham United are also interested in Anelka with manager Sam Allardyce keen to link up again with the player he worked with while in charge of Bolton Wanderers.

Shanghai assistant spokesman Ma also said several Chinese teams were interested in signing Anelka’s team mate Didier Drogba and had been in contact with the Ivory Coast forward.

Last month Drogba refused a one-year extension to his contract at Chelsea and the 33-year-old’s deal at the London club expires next year.

“So far, on Drogba to move to Shenhua, our club has no clear confirmation,” added Ma.

Shanghai, who finished 11th in the league last season, are also looking to bring in former Fulham boss Jean Tigana as coach next term. Tigana stepped down as manager of Ligue 1 side Bordeaux earlier this year.
